Making an entrance

Aliums on-going work for F-star at their Babraham Research Campus home has more recently focussed on the 'Look and Feel' of the office, meeting room and circulation spaces - and in particular their existing reception and entrance staircase. The weekend installation of a new molecule referencing colour scheme throughout the entire building has resulted in a rather lively make-over. Bispecific antibodies are a serious matter but so is looking the part. Check out that F-star orange sofa!

Meeting pods in a weekend!

The follow-on project Alium are undertaking for Alzheimer’s Research UK [see March news] is now drawing to a close. This has involved some very messy weekend work but apparently “You’ve got to break some eggs to make an omelette” – just make sure it’s all tidied away by Monday morning. All the making good and re-routed services are complete and the new flooring and meeting pods are now being installed. It’s a bit like being by the sea-side.

Steelwork on domestic extension proceeds

Alium are currently involved in the design of a number of domestic architectural commissions of which several are now on site. The benefit of employing the architectural skills of a company like Alium is in ensuring the consideration of the internal space is of equal importance as the contextual envelop that contains it. Now on site in De Freville Avenue in the Chesterton area of Cambridge is a large (600 sq ft) extension for a private client’s Victorian property that will create a large open-plan kitchen, dining and family room. The new structure will be clad in copper coloured zinc but before that can happen the contractor must install some pretty substantial steelwork.

ARUK project completes

Alium have completed the fit-out of new 2nd floor office and meeting room space for Alzheimer’s Research UK at Granta Park. Although the project is now technically complete the next few weeks will see ARUK migrate both staff and functionality on to the new floor. This will also involve a smaller follow-on project by Alium to strip-out the old reception and boardroom on the first floor and reclaim that space for new desking and some rather fantastic meeting pods.

'In the five years we have worked with Alium, they have consistently delivered clear, innovative designs that have provided our organisation with the bright flexible workspace that we needed. The comprehensive service they provide, from the first design meeting to their effective project management throughout the build, has ensured they are the company we always choose to work with on any fit-out projects'.

Additional office space for ARUK

Alium’s fit-out of additional office space for Alzheimer’s Research UK at their Granta Park headquarters continues apace. This is Alium’s third major design and fit-out project for ARUK whose high-profile work is placing further pressure on their existing facilities. As well as accommodating an ever increasing head-count Alium are creating a dedicated suite of flexible meeting spaces. The under-floor and ceiling M&E services are largely complete and stud partitioning is now being installed to create the internal layout. It is these wet-trades that tend to make the most mess but Alium’s Operations Director Toby Geering is not unduly concerned. “This is just part of the process; it is the roof plant mechanical connections and first floor data and alarm connections that are the biggest challenge in what are already very congested service risers” before adding  “there is always a solution however”. The project is due to hand over at the beginning of March.

Fit-out for Beko completed

The New Year sees Alium complete the fit-out of a new Research & Development facility for white goods manufacturer Beko on the Cambridge Science Park. The combined lab and office space included a dynamic decorative scheme that is clearly not for the faint hearted. We salute you Beko.

'Alium did a fantastic job from beginning to end, supporting us through all parts of the design and fit out process in a professional and constructive manner'.
